Fix the date taken on your photos

Camera clock an hour out, or still on home time after a trip? Scans all dated the day you scanned them? Shift a whole batch or set an exact date — without re-compressing a single photo.

Your photos never leave your device

What to do

Every date in each photo moves by the same amount, so their order and the gaps between them stay as they were.

Only rewrites the time zone a photo already records (Exif OffsetTime); none is added.

Everything happens inside this page. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is sent anywhere — once the page has loaded, it even works offline.

How it works

Only the dates change. Every pixel stays.

Read

Each photo’s dates are read on your device, and you see the old and the new “date taken” side by side before anything is written.

Rewrite

The Exif dates (taken, digitised, modified) and matching XMP dates are overwritten in place, character for character. The image is never decoded or re-compressed.

Check

Every copy is read again to make sure the new dates are there and the file is the same size. Its name ends in -dated.

What changes

Exactly what is changed, and what is kept

Changed

Date taken, date digitised and date modified in Exif; the matching XMP dates; and the time zone tags, only if you pick a zone.

Kept

The picture, bit for bit, plus the camera, lens, exposure, location and everything else in the file. The file stays the same size.

No date at all?

Adding a date that isn’t there means making the file bigger, which this tool never does. firelet.media Gallery can add dates to whole folders of scans.
