Each photo’s metadata is read on your device and the coordinates it holds are shown, so you can see what a photo would give away.
Free tool
Phones write the exact spot every photo was taken into the file. See what your photos give away, then download clean copies without it — free, with no sign-up.
Your photos never leave your device
Everything happens inside this page. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is sent anywhere — once the page has loaded, it even works offline.
“View on map” opens openstreetmap.org in a new tab, and only when you click it. Nothing else on this page goes online.
How it works
Each photo’s metadata is read on your device and the coordinates it holds are shown, so you can see what a photo would give away.
The GPS block in the Exif data and the location fields in XMP are blanked in place. The image itself is never decoded or re-compressed.
Every clean copy is read again to make sure no location is left before it is offered. The file name ends in -no-location.
What changes
GPS coordinates, altitude, direction, speed and GPS time, and place names written in XMP or IPTC (city, state, country).
The picture, bit for bit, plus the date and time, camera and lens, orientation and exposure settings. The file stays the same size.
Send a photo by email, a cloud link or a forum and the spot it was taken can travel with it — often your home, or your children’s school.
