One gallery, every desktop

Every feature is in every build — the AI search, the faces, the map, the editor and the phone link are all there on Windows, macOS and Linux. What changes from one to the next is only the plumbing each operating system already provides.

Windows is on sale today. The macOS and Linux builds are being finished — leave your email and we'll tell you the day each one lands.

Where they differ

Eight things that change by OS

All small, all about drivers and codecs — never a feature that is simply missing on purpose.

Feature Windows macOS Linux
Video previews & length Built-in With FFmpeg 1 With FFmpeg 1
Scanner Built-in Not available Via SANE 2
Motion photos Plays them — —
HEIC / HEIF photos Free HEIF add-on 3 Built-in With libheif 3
AI search speed GPU-accelerated CPU CPU
In-app map Needs WebView2 4 Built-in Built-in
Text-in-photos languages Many languages English English
How you install it .exe installer .dmg · Intel & Apple Silicon AppImage · deb · rpm · flatpak
  1. 1FFmpeg is a free, one-time install. Without it a video still appears in your library with its name, size and date — it just gains a preview and length once FFmpeg is installed and the next scan runs.
  2. 2Linux scanning uses SANE (the scanimage tool). Install it from your package manager and scanners appear in the Imaging view.
  3. 3HEIC photos need a free decoder: the HEIF Image Extension from the Microsoft Store on Windows, or the libheif tools on Linux. macOS reads them out of the box.
  4. 4The map draws in the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime, which is already present on most Windows 11 machines; if it is missing, the map says so and everything else works.

Search quality is identical across all three — the same model, the same results. Only how fast pictures are first indexed differs. And on none of them does anything from your library leave your computer.
