Rename photos by the date they were taken

IMG_4821, DSC00412, PXL_2024… Give a whole folder names that sort in the order things happened, like 2024-05-17_14-30-22.jpg — and see every new name before anything is made.

Your photos never leave your device

A browser can’t rename files where they are, so this tool hands you renamed copies in a .zip. Every file inside is byte-for-byte the original, and your originals stay exactly as they are.

Off unless you tick it. A file date is when the file was last saved or copied — often not the day the picture was taken.

Everything happens inside this page. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is sent anywhere — once the page has loaded, it even works offline.

How it works

New names. The same files.

Read the date

Each file’s date is read on your device — Exif in JPEG and HEIC photos, the recording time of MP4 and MOV videos — and you see where every date came from.

Preview every name

Old and new names side by side before anything is made. Shots from the same second get their split-second time or _1, _2.

Take the .zip

The renamed copies come in one .zip, each dated to the moment it was taken. Nothing is re-saved: every byte is the original’s.

What changes

Only the name changes

Changed

The file name — and, inside the .zip, each file’s modified date, set to when it was taken.

Kept

Every byte of every photo and video: the picture, Exif, location and edits. Nothing is re-compressed.

Kept together

Files that share a name — an iPhone Live Photo’s HEIC and MOV, RAW + JPEG, .xmp and .aae sidecars — get the same new name, so they stay paired.
