firelet.media Gallery for Windows needs Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later, or Windows 11, on a 64-bit PC. The installer is about 67 MB and brings everything it needs, so there is nothing else to install first. Allow about 228 MB of disk for the program, plus about 440 MB if you download the AI models. A graphics card is optional.

Your photos don't count towards the disk figures: the gallery reads them where they already are and doesn't copy them.
How to check your Windows version
- Press Win+R.
- Type
winverand press Enter. - Read the build number in the window that opens. It must be 19041 or higher, or the window must say Windows 11.

What is bundled (no .NET install needed)
The installer is self-contained. It carries:
- the .NET runtime the program is built on;
- ONNX Runtime, the engine that runs the AI on your PC;
- SQLite, the database engine behind your library;
- the Microsoft C runtime.
You don't need to install any of them separately, and the gallery doesn't depend on whichever versions other programs on your PC use.
Optional: WebView2 for the map, HEIF and HEVC extensions for HEIC
Two kinds of Windows component are needed only for particular features:
- Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime draws the in-app map. Most Windows 11 PCs already have it. If it is missing, Setup says so and the map stays empty, but everything else works; it is a free Microsoft download. The map also shows no background imagery until you choose a tile provider; see map says "No map tiles configured".
- Codecs from the Microsoft Store. The gallery uses Windows' own decoders and ships none of its own. HEIC photos need the free HEIF Image Extension plus the HEVC Video Extensions (a small one-off fee); AVIF needs the free AV1 Video Extension; WebP needs the free Webp Image Extensions. For video, H.264 is built in, HEVC needs the paid HEVC Video Extensions, and VP9 has a free extension.

GPU vs CPU for AI indexing
On Windows, the AI uses your graphics card through DirectML when it can, and switches to the processor automatically when it can't. There is nothing to set up.
- Search results are identical either way. Only how fast pictures are first indexed differs.
- Face detection always runs on the processor.
- Text in photos uses the text recognition built into Windows, in the languages you have installed for Windows.
macOS and Linux builds (coming soon)
The macOS and Linux builds are being finished and aren't available yet. There is no release date; Email me when it's ready will tell you when they are. As built today:

Android companion (coming soon): Android 10+
The free Android companion app is coming soon and isn't on Google Play yet. When it is available it will need:
- Android 10 or later, on a phone or tablet;
- the same Wi-Fi as your PC to pair and share pictures.
Its optional describe search downloads about 30 MB from Google Play plus a 156 MB model, only if you switch it on. Its pro features unlock while it is paired with a PC that is licensed or in its 14-day trial. The app is in English.

Does it run on Windows 10?
Yes, Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later, and Windows 11. It is a 64-bit program.
Do I need to install .NET separately?
No. The installer carries its own runtime, AI engine and database engine.
Do I need a graphics card for AI search?
No. On Windows the AI uses the graphics card when one is available and falls back to the processor, which is slower to index but gives the same results.
